We could go bankrupt if not gold plated jewelry which is the solution to this problem. What the pros and cons of this alternative are then?
PROS
- Gold plated jewelry items are affordable.
Gold plating gives the outward appearance of genuine gold jewelry without the crazy cost!
- It looks like real gold!
Gold-plated pieces are suitable substitutes for solid gold jewels because it is difficult to distinguish, though gold-plated jewelry is nowhere near as expensive!
- They are easy to make, and there are more design possibilities.
Traditional jewelry is often outdated due to fast fashion's impact on society. It is harder to produce, and the designs are similar.
- Gold-plated items are durable.
Gold is a very soft and flexible metal. Higher the karat, the more malleable the item is. Therefore, gold-plated jewelry items are stronger than solid gold items and will last longer.
CONS
- It will eventually tarnish!
In a gold-jewelry jewelry piece, the metal beneath the gold plate will eventually come to the surface and become discolored, so it will need to be polished frequently to keep its shine.
- The plating can be scratched or chipped.
The reason for this is that the gold layer is so thin and not very durable itself. So, to make your g jewelry gold again, you can have the item re-plated.
- The amount of gold is minimal and can lead to a lower value.
You can't sell it as you would sell gold. This is because t external coating of the item is relatively thin, with about a few microns of gold in the plating.
